Sean McClain began fencing under coach Gerard Poujardieu Jr. in Round Rock, Texas.\u00a0 Within a few years, the young McClain became a phenomenon, winning most of the new youth events that peppered the country including the Junior Olympic Cadet Epee title in 1990 at the age of 14.\u00a0 But his stunning 2-weapon talent took the fencing world by storm in 1992, with Sean\u2019s amazing feat of winning 3 Junior Olympic titles in one year.\u00a0 His victories in Cadet Epee, Cadet Foil and Junior Foil were spectacular. Following training with Buckie Leach in Rochester, Sean earned a scholarship to Stanford University where he won the NCAA foil championship and became a member of the US National Team.\u00a0 Sean earned the United States\u2019 National Epee title in 1994, won the Pan American Games foil team silver medal for the U.S. in 1995 and took the United States National Foil title in 2001, making Sean one of only 3 men living today who have won both titles (Skip Shurtz & Larry Anastasi). The last 2-weapon champion accomplished this 40 years before young McClain. Sean turned professional and began coaching at the Fencing Academy of Westchester and in 2007 opened his own fencing club, Empire United Fencing with Jed Dupree, a 2004 Olympian.<\/p>\n
