He qualified for the French Olympic Team in 1936, but refused to go to Berlin because he was a Jew.  During WWII while fighting in the French Army, he was captured and put in a Nazi  war camp for jews. He later escaped and made his way to America, through Portugal .  Once here, he entered the American military who needed soldiers who could speak French to fight in Africa.  Albert Wolff went back to War this time in an American uniform and fought the Germans again.  When the war was over, Albert Wolff petitioned the AFLA to let him enter the US Nationals and they unanimously agreed.  Albert became the US Epee Champion that year.

Whenever he went to tournaments in 1946-7 season, he refused to fence epee so that nobody could beat the reigning champion…so he would travel to the Midwest and enter sabre and foil competitions.
